My baby will be 29 tomorrow. Wow, I need to sit down. If my baby is 29, that makes me OLD! Funny, I never think of myself as being old enough to belong to AARP, but I am, and I do. In my defense - they give you all sorts of discounts if you're a $15 per year, card carrying member of their grey set. I got 10% off a recent hotel bill which more than paid for my first three years. But I digress.
I knit these socks for Holly because she wore holes in the last pair I knit her. Ya gotta love a child who'll actually wear what you knit for her even if they're not her favorite colors. This time I actually knit something in her favorite colors, grey and brown. I know - it was painful as they're my LEAST favorite colors. But she's my daughter and I love her. The yarn is by Sweet Georgia, and is Speed Demon (which means 7spi on double point 2's) in Rusted. This way they didn't take forever to knit and she can throw them in the wash.
I only ever knit socks in superwash merino, at 7spi. Yes, I know that there are gorgeous yarns out there that knit up at a finer gauge and make a sleeker sock, but been there did that didn't like it. I'm in this sock thing for the
instant gratification cuddly warmth of a fluffy, thick sock and ANYTHING that knits up at 9spi, is not, fluffy and thick I mean. Anyway, here are Holly's socks. I put them on the mums on the steps in front because it was threatening to start raining again any second. My camera battery died after one shot, and it started to pour all at the same time - so I'm glad my one attempt worked out.
So it's grey and raining and that means it's time for ... coffee and cake! And I just happened to have made a lovely fresh cranberry walnut cake over which I'll pour butterscotch sauce. Mmmmm.... stay tuned - recipe to come!
